Clary sage gets its name from the Latin word “clarus,” which means “clear.” It is referred to as “clear eyes” during the Middle Ages. People would soak a cloth in water with Clary sage essential oil and place it over their eyes for relief. Clary sage essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from the leaves and buds of the salvia sclarea plant native to Europe. Probably best known for having therapeutic benefits for women and also has been hailed as a hormone balancer. The aroma is similar to garden sage but less herbal with a slightly earthy and sweet scent.

Clary sage essential oil has antioxidants that help reverse signs of aging, like wrinkles and skin discoloration. These antioxidants provide your body with natural protection against free radicals that damage skin cells, causing aging. Clary sage essential oil helps to remove fines lines and wrinkles on face and neck, especially when used in combination with skin moisturizers, skin supporting oils and butters. When combined in anti aging formulas, Clary sage also balances the skin and helps to reduce excessive production of oil. As an antiseptic and antibacterial, this natural age supporting oil tightens pores and makes the skin feel firmer and tighter over time.

Clary sage resonates with the Sacral Chakra and is associated with family, sexuality, passion and creativity. Our desires, passions and imagination are expressed through this Chakra, which is why this oil is also touted as a powerful aphrodisiac.
